Kelly Richardson BA (Hons) can help you with any non-medical dog behavioural problem. She will
teach you how to manage your dog's behaviour using a remarkable technique called Amichien®
Bonding pioneered by the original Dog Listener and best-selling author, Jan Fennell.
Before you can achieve this, it's helpful to understand how canines interact with each other when living
in packs without human involvement.
Generally, each wolf pack, wild dog pack or stray dog pack has a male and a female leader/carer. The
role of this pair is to:
Domestic dogs see themselves and the humans they live with as members of the same pack. In most
cases, these human members do not act like leaders when interacting with their dogs. This is mainly
due to the misinterpretation of the alpha role, facilitated by many 'dog training' programmes on
mainstream television. Everyone agrees they must show their dogs that they are the leaders but what
exactly does that mean?
To clarify, man handling, shouting, talking in a deep voice, jerking around on the lead, obedience and
gadgets will not make your dog think you're the leader. Canine leaders do not use these methods to
control their subordinates so why should we?
The fact that owners do not act like leaders coupled with the fact that dogs instinctively know that a pack
without leaders will die quickly always results in the dog slipping into the role of leader/decision maker,
whether it wants to or not.
A dog cannot be the leader in our complex human world and the leadership responsibility is so huge
that it causes the dog to behave in a way we find unacceptable. But remember, it is only behaving the
way it believes an alpha should.
If you have a look on the Dog Problems page, you'll find a list of behaviours typically exhibited by dogs
who think they are leading their pack. Your dog may display many of these problems or perhaps only
one. Whatever the case, Kelly can help you remove this responsibility so your dog can relax and live a
carefree life.
